Thank You for Supporting the Danforth Center in 2021

A letter from Jim Carrington, PhD, President and CEO of the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center.

Undeterred. That word sums up the Danforth Center’s ambition, achievement, and growth in 2021. With some nimble navigation through the pandemic tumult, the Center had a banner year delivering on our mission to improve the human condition through plant science.

Our drive to reveal the secrets of plants was unwavering with the strongest year of research grant-getting in our 24-year history, setting us up well for the next several years of discovery. Our motivation to enhance food security and mitigate climate change was resolute with creation of a center of excellence to provide more sustainable alternatives to chemical fertilizers. Our momentum in delivering improved crops in developing countries continued unabated with approvals of new traits and new varieties for smallholder farmers in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. And our partnerships across the St. Louis region have never been stronger to support education and outreach in underserved neighborhoods, innovation in the ag-tech sector, creation and growth of start-up companies in 39 North, and expansion of economic impact in the region.

Undeterred, unwavering, resolute, unabated. They describe our commitment to realize a vision of feeding the world, sustaining the environment, and strengthening the St. Louis region. They also describe you, our friends and generous supporters, and your continued commitment to join us on a remarkable journey. Thank you for helping to make 2021 such a successful, meaningful, and impactful year at the Danforth Center.

Sincerely,

Jim Carrington
