Todd Mockler, a scientist and entrepreneur who sought to understand how plants perceive their environment, has died.

Mockler, 52, was a researcher at the Danforth Plant Science Center and co-founded Benson Hill, an agriculture technology company that went on to become one of the region’s biggest business success stories in recent years.
