(St. Louis Business Journal) Danforth Center CEO and President to depart in 2025
Jim Carrington, the president and CEO of the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, said Monday he plans to step down from his role in 2025.
Carrington will depart the nonprofit research institute July 1, 2025, the Danforth Center announced Monday. Carrington joined the Danforth Center as its president in 2011.
Carrington said at the start of his tenure he wanted to strengthen the Danforth Center’s efforts to commercialize research within its walls and help startups pursue capital. That has remained an area of focus for the Danforth Center, which had recorded wins in helping advance agriculture innovation.
The Danforth Center in 2022 created the Danforth Technology Co. (DTC), a wholly owned corporation that will focus on helping Danforth Center scientists commercialize their research and technology. The first startup, Peptyde Bio, that was established by DTC was acquired in 2023 by Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Invaio Sciences.
The Danforth Center also played a key role in the creation of 39 North, the 600-acre innovation district that includes the Danforth Center, BRDG Park, Helix Center Biotech Incubator and Bayer Crop Science.
