(St. Louis Business Journal) Danforth Center announces next President

The Donald Danforth Plant Science Center on Tuesday announced the hiring of a plant geneticist from the University of Cambridge in England as its next leader.

Dr. Giles Oldroyd will take over as president of the Creve Coeur-based nonprofit plant science research institute on Oct. 1. He'll replace current president, James Carrington, who last summer announced plans to step down.

"I'll start off by saying that I feel extremely aligned to the Danforth Center," Oldroyd said in an interview Monday. "Its vision is to improve the human condition through plant science, and it's got a very clear (mission) on driving impact, both locally and internationally. That's something I really care, and feel very passionately, about."

The Board of Directors and the search committee had an "extensive international search" for the new president. Board of Directors Chair Penny Pennington, managing partner of Edward Jones, said Oldroyd is "a proven leader with a passion and strong commitment for improving lives through plant science."
